Summer reading

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Summer time is upon us and soon it will be vacation time!

I'm not sure that this year, my four week break from work will be full of reading opportunities but I'm certain that I'll be able to go through several novels.  Sadly, the whole lot is not gonna be all e-books so I'll have to carry more than my e-reader but there is worst problems in the world!

Here's the list of books I intend to read this summer. Anyway, that list is a tentative one, it could easily be less or more books and some other novel I'm not thinking about now may find its way in my hands. If only I could get an ARC of King of Thorns or Black Bottle! :)

As for you my fellow readers, what are you reading this summer?  Which book do you intend to take with you on your trips? Some audiobooks?

And in audiobook, although I listen to less audiobooks during the summer:

Right now I'm not yet in vacation but in a way doing nothing so it half-counts as that. I'm currently reading Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence (hey, common reading!), Expecting Someone Taller by Tom Holt and A Canticle For Leibowitz by Walter James Miller. I'm not so sure that I'll finish all those before vacation time comes but if I do then I have a lot of other e-books waiting in my Kobo to continue reading. As for real, paper books (a big list waiting there as well), I still have the final book of the Mistborn trilogy, The Hero of Ages by Sanderson to read so that might get its spot in my luggage!

What I really want to know from you though is this: Where is this beautiful beach that's in your photo? :)

Just noticed that you have King of Thorns up there and not Prince of Thorns... ah well... I'm always late to book-parties, I know I am! :D

Oh and what I forgot to mention above is reading several short stories or novellas, most of them free to get.

I'm just back from vacation, and was working for most of it. My "to read" list is getting longer, but I'm ready to dive into it. King of Thorns may be the first...

My reading list always grows when I visit your blog. Thanks for great suggestions as always. Now, I just need to take time from my own writing to shrink the list before I visit you again. *wink*

I'm gonna give Malazan another try. I've tried twice to read GOTM, but I can't get through it. I'm just gonna force myself this time.

@Antonakis: The pic was taken from the web, the location is unknown... sadly... you could only hope to be there! :)

Which free shorts and novellas are you looking at?

@Anonymous: What is putting you off from GOTM?

@Phil I find the book somewhat frustrating because you are dropped in the middle of a world with no setup. I don't really know what is going or what the characters motivations are. However with all the acclaim this series has gotten I feel I'm really missing out by not reading Malazan. I've heard once you get past GOTM the series really picks up.
