Covers, covers and news?

Before talking of covers, a little aside. I'm late in delivering any review these days but I can't do much about it. I think I haven't read a Malazan book in that much time ever. Not because I don't like it but because it's a big doorstopper and I don't seem to find the time to read enough lately. The same thing applies to my audiobook listening of Acacia (which is also a long listening session).

So, what else is happening? Well for one my last poll is over and I will talk about it and the next one in the following days. For now, not much big news in the fantasy reading world lately but some covers were delivered to us. Firstly, here are the US covers of the two first books of the Shadow of the Apt series by Adrian Tchaikovsky with their UK/CA counterparts. As far as my taste goes, the US covers look better but the font is awful. The left one is the new US cover. So, what do you think?

Dragons? Yes! Stephen Deas second book (The King of the Crags) cover of his dragon based trilogy was released. Thanks to Mad Hatter. The cover is a nice follow-up of the first book. By the way, if you want to know more about Stephen Deas and his books, you can take a look at my interview and review.

I am definitely digging the new covers for the Tchaikovsky novels. I've been looking into getting them from the UK for some time now, but I am glad I waited so long. No doubt I will be picking these up when they hit shelves. If you could ignore the horrible art of the UK covers, they manage to look rather classy. I wouldn't exactly say that the font of the US versions is bad, but it does leave a lot to be desired. At the very least it is not pasted huge over the busiest parts of the cover like several covers I have seen recently.

For the Tchaikovsky, I definately like the simpler covers better. MUCH better. The ones on the left look like they are cluttered.

James, you're right about the US font, it would have been awful if it was hanging on top of the figures.

Christy, even for Dragonfly falling?

Love the Us covers just amazing! atleast for me they portray epic fantasy and make me wanna pick up the books, what else can one want from a cover. Sure the font aint great but in my opinion the art more than makes up for it.
