Jon Sprunk, author of the Shadow Saga series starring the assassin Caim will present a new series next year (March 11th), The Book of the Black Earth.  The first novel of this Epic Fantasy series is titled Blood and Iron and the cover was unveiled earlier this month.  Here's the blurb:
The Akeshian Empire has long been ruled by God-Kings and -Queens with the power of life and death over their subjects. When ship carpenter Horace is shipwrecked on its shores, he is taken captive and soon discovers that he possesses latent magical power of his own.
Elevated to the court of the enemy queen, Horace finds himself in the middle of a power struggle between the empire’s traditional wizard-rulers and a rising religious sect that wants to subjugate all magic-wielders and seize control.

Amazing cover, very nice color combinations, with nice lettering and stylistic decisions. I also like that even though 2 different things are presented it doesn't feel crowded. And also, I like how there's so much mystery on those characters without falling into the old "hooded" cliche! I want to get this book just for its cover!

Hehe at first glance in thumbnail format I thought the one in the middle was indeed hooded :) You're right, I forgot to talk about my opinion on the cover but it looks really good!
